More Rafters

More rafters have gone up and it's starting to get more closed in; feeling more like a house!
This is from the front door - some of the inside framing has been started.
Our friends from Texas, Deb & Larry Rochat were visiting Here they are in today's video:

This picture was taken from the back of the house - you can see the masonry work on the fireplace and then inside, the ceiling on the great room is now in place.
Jacob had worked with the construction crew on Friday and at the end of the day he climbed the scaffolding in the back to get this picture of the top of the chimney and the outer side of the ceiling over the great room - I'm glad I wasn't there to see him up there!
On Saturday Jim and I went to the site with Jaime, Karen and the kids. Here's the video:

Big Beams

We got a call last night saying that the crane would be onsite today to place the very heavy beams that will bear the weight of the roof. I tried to see it in action, but had to back up on the driveway to let the crane out as I was coming in. The two large beams were placed (1) over the great room in the center of the house, and (2) over the garage.
This is the view from the kitchen entrance of the beam in the great room.

The video shows both of these big beams:

Dormers and fireplace

The framing continues and the dormers are in place for the second floor of the house and over the garage.

Jacob took some pictures of the fireplace that is being started and the windows beside it. Looks like it will be nice.

Stain color and garage goes up

There are now 18 courses of logs on the garage. The big debate this week was that since there are 22 courses on the first floor of the house, how will the garage and house match up on the second floor? Now we are debating whether to make the garage taller or make a couple steps from the house into the bonus room.
This is the stain color provided by Southland. We tried some other products, but this was the lightest one, so we will go with it!
The view from the garage of the whole house.
