Paint & Garage Doors

Garage doors are in. Will someone please roll the trash bin to the street?
The bonus room above the garage is a light blue - very pretty.
Basement room is a beige-coral color that we are hoping will go nicely with the terra cotta tiles for the floor.
One of the upstairs bedrooms is a light yellow called "morning sun" which is ironic since the room faces west!

Drywall & Heat

Dry wall installation sure makes the inside take shape.
We have heat inside that the drywall finishers need in order to put the mud on the walls.
On the outside the stone finish is around to the front.

Well & Patio

This week we figured out how we are doing the cabinets and the placement in the kitchen. Once the order is placed we should have the cabinets by the end of December.

The major changes this week were the well being dug and this concrete patio outside of the basement.
Since the videos do not always work on the blog, I've gone back to uploading them to you tube and providing the link:

Fall Changes

The deck is now in place all the way around the back.
This is the HVAC unit in the basement. There is also one in the upstairs and one in the bonus room to heat and cool the bonus room and the breezeway.
Look at all those wires! Lots of electrical work has been done and Jacob installed the camera mounts so that we will be able to keep track of the place remotely.
We now have doors!
Here is the video from October when Grandma DeNearing and Aunt Jeanette were visiting:

This is the video from Nov 6 when we got back from our travels ; Jim & Jacob to South Dakota to hunt with Luci and Linda to Eugene to play Halloween with Lisa, Holly & Luke.

Windows and Stairs

Lots of work has been done on the house; the siding is on the dormers, most of the windows are in, there are stairs now to the bonus room and to the basement, electrical power cable has been buried and attached, and the framing of the finished basement has begun.
These are the stairs that go up to the bonus room above the garage; much more convenient than climbing a ladder!

Shingles and Stones

Since we were away and did not see the progress for 2 weeks, it seems like there were lots of changes. The shingles are on most of the roof, and inside the framing is started so that the rooms are all taking shape.
The fireplace stone is so nice. This is the view from the back porch and shows all of the work that is done on the back deck framing, too.

A Roof Overhead

From the fireplace looking up to the loft; the ladder is where the stairs will come up. Won't it be a nice view?
The roof is mostly on and there is paper over the roof of the garage. Inside the dormers give the bedrooms such character because there are so many slanted walls.
Rafters over the front porch. Just perfect for attaching my front porch swing!

More Rafters

More rafters have gone up and it's starting to get more closed in; feeling more like a house!
This is from the front door - some of the inside framing has been started.
Our friends from Texas, Deb & Larry Rochat were visiting Here they are in today's video:

This picture was taken from the back of the house - you can see the masonry work on the fireplace and then inside, the ceiling on the great room is now in place.
Jacob had worked with the construction crew on Friday and at the end of the day he climbed the scaffolding in the back to get this picture of the top of the chimney and the outer side of the ceiling over the great room - I'm glad I wasn't there to see him up there!
On Saturday Jim and I went to the site with Jaime, Karen and the kids. Here's the video:

Big Beams

We got a call last night saying that the crane would be onsite today to place the very heavy beams that will bear the weight of the roof. I tried to see it in action, but had to back up on the driveway to let the crane out as I was coming in. The two large beams were placed (1) over the great room in the center of the house, and (2) over the garage.
This is the view from the kitchen entrance of the beam in the great room.

The video shows both of these big beams:

Dormers and fireplace

The framing continues and the dormers are in place for the second floor of the house and over the garage.

Jacob took some pictures of the fireplace that is being started and the windows beside it. Looks like it will be nice.

Stain color and garage goes up

There are now 18 courses of logs on the garage. The big debate this week was that since there are 22 courses on the first floor of the house, how will the garage and house match up on the second floor? Now we are debating whether to make the garage taller or make a couple steps from the house into the bonus room.
This is the stain color provided by Southland. We tried some other products, but this was the lightest one, so we will go with it!

Porches and garage

This picture was taken from the front corner of the garage. You can see the porch which will be plenty wide for my swing! The A-frame one the side is new and so is flooring on the breezeway and the logs being started on the garage. Coming right along!

Slab for the garage

Diane and I went out today to see the concrete slab for the garage in progress and to see the flooring for the second story. Looking good!
The far corner is what will be the dining room, but the kitchen area will be open to above. This angle is from standing by the front door.

Starting the second floor

July 24
The back wall which will contain the fireplace has been erected. The floor joists for the second floor are in and there is a little bit of flooring started. The site work folks have been back and they re-graded the road and added more gravel so the site is a bit easier to access. On Monday the slab for the garage floor is supposed to be poured and then the logs can be started on that area. So exciting to see it taking shape!

Jacob climbed up the scaffolding along the back and took this picture looking into the kitchen area.
Here's todays video:

Jacob works with the framers

July 15, 2010
Jacob took a day off from work and started working with the framers at 6 am. It's been so hot here that working outside is a real challenge. There are more logs going up so the house is growing!
Lisa is visiting from Oregon so she and Holly were able to see the progress in person!

Video link (I'm not sure what happened to the sound)

July 17, 2010
We went out to dinner in Warrenton and went by the home site first to see the progress.

First Logs

This is the view from that garage side. I like how the logs look at the corners, except that if I were about 8 years old I am certain that I would try to climb up!
This is the view from the front door looking towards the breezeway and garage. The opening there looks small but it is 3 feet wide and we don't plan on putting a door there.

First Floor in the Rain!

Went to see the work this week and most of the first floor is in place.
Going below to the basement you can get an idea of the height of the room by looking at the ladders. There is one spot in the back where the first floor is not in yet.
It was SO rainy and muddy and trying to walk around the site I kept sinking into the mud and I had to use handfuls of pine needles to clean off my shoes before I could get in the car.

Here's the link to today's one minute video tour!

We have a basement

The plumber came out and put some pipes in and then the basement slab was poured. It is big and it echoes!
The pillars in the garage are designed so that a concrete slab is made on top of them - that slab will be the floor of the garage.

Log Delivery Day!

Today the logs came! There were 5 trucks.

The truckers refused to drive down our bumpy road so the logs had to be unloaded at the front of the property.

Jacob helped!
